The answer to question one is essential knowledge of the gospel. Generally, a
person confessing to be a Christian will not deny that all have sinned and need the
forgiveness of God. However, when asked why God would forgive them, I get
answers like, "because He loves us"; "He's a forgiving and merciful God"; and "it's in
His nature." These answers sound good but they in no way constitute the
forgiveness of sin. It is of the utmost importance that the principles of God be neither
misunderstood nor taken for granted, but it is easily done if they are not known. God
says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge." (Hosea 4:6) My conviction is
that there is no richer life than the life of one who has sought after knowledge and
found it in God through Jesus Christ. So, it is not my desire to condemn but to
encourage diligent study that you might prove all things and know of a certainty that
what Jesus Christ testifies to us is absolutely true. My prayer is that you will not settle
for lightweight insight in the things of God and His Son Jesus Christ but, that you
would be fully persuaded of His life, death, resurrection, and return to you! Jesus
says, "This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus
Christ, whom thou hast sent." (John 17:3) Knowing God and Jesus Christ starts with
knowing the gospel of Jesus Christ and the gospel starts with the forgiveness of sin.
